The Fashion Center, headquarters of the Fashion Center Business Improvement District (BID), the not-for-profit corporation that promotes New York's apparel industry, unveiled its new window display titled "Street Smarts--New York." The Fashion Center Space for Public Art and Design window was designed by visual merchandising students from LIM--The College for the Business of Fashion, and will be on display throughout May. Located at 209 W. 38th St., between 7th and 8th avenues, the The Fashion Center Space for Public Art and Design window features a female mannequin on a vintage 1957 Schwinn bicycle bursting through a fashion look book. It was conceived, designed and installed by students in LIM's visual presentation course, which is taught by Professor Marjorie Lee Woo. "The display epitomizes what the Fashion Center and the New York garment industry are all about," said Gerald Scupp, deputy director of the Fashion Center BID. "'Street Smarts--New York' is not only highly visual and electric, reflecting the dynamism of our industry, but it also reflects the strong partnership between the existing and future leadership of the fashion industry."
