idX Seattle Earns FSC Certification
May 15, 2008
St. Louis-based idX Corp. has earned Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification for its Seattle division. Earning FSC certification means that wood used in fixtures from idX Seattle can be traced back to the forest where it began, ensuring environmentally responsible forestry, processing and manufacturing of wood products. The FSC certification process requires system-wide changes, including isolating the certified products, using special labels and maintaining the chain-of-custody for each piece of wood used. FSC certification provides a guarantee that the fixture's chain-of-custody has been maintained. The chain-of-custody begins in the forest and includes all successive stages of processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution. To qualify for FSC certification, idX's Seattle division was independently verified by Scientific Certification Systems, an FSC-accredited certification company. SCS examined idX's record-keeping and systems, certifying idX to work within the FSC system and label its products with the FSC logo. Following the Seattle division certification, idX's Louisville division is in the process of being audited for FSC certification.
