Under Armour Debuts Second Retail Store
May 15, 2008
Baltimore-based Under Armour Inc. unveiled its second retail store today in the Fox Valley Mall in Aurora, Ill. The company debuted its first full-line retail store in Annapolis, Md., in November 2007. The new 6,000-sq.-ft. store is designed to resemble the inside of a sports stadium, and is a futuristic mesh of athletics, science, industry and performance. A colossal bronze statue of brand ambassador "Big E" acts as the centerpiece of the store. In addition, the store features a "stadium tunnel" entryway, a 120-in., rear-projection HD television screen and a 32-in. multimedia touchscreen kiosk containing branded interactive content and educational elements. "The retail store is a destination experience that brings to life the environments we create in our commercials and on our Web site," said Scott Plank, senior vice president, retail, Under Armour. The company plans to open at least one additional retail store in 2008, and will continue to evaluate expanding its branded retail business.
