Safeway Opens Upscale Store in Bellevue, Wash.
June 27, 2008
Pleasanton, Calif.-based Safeway Inc. unveiled an upscale store in downtown Bellevue, Wash., which is designed for an affluent clientele, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. The Bellevue store includes features such as wood floors, a nut bar, temperature-controlled wine cellar, fireplace, sushi bar, gelato bar and a Starbucks. Additionally, up to 40 percent of the store's produce is organic. "In the Seattle division, this is our first elite-lifestyle store," said Patti Kennedy, the Bellevue store manager. Safeway's Seattle division has 197 stores from Alaska to Montana. The new $50 million Bellevue Safeway is part of the Avalon Meydenbauer mixed-use development, across the street from a former Safeway store that will now be redeveloped.
