Chico's to Slow Square-Footage Growth

Fort Myers, Fla.-based Chico's FAS Inc.'s President, Chairman and CEO Scott Edmonds discussed the company's plans to withstand the current retail environment at an Annual Meeting of Stockholders Thursday. He indicated that Chico's intends to slow real estate square-footage growth until there is evidence of increasing same-store sales and improvement in the economic outlook. The retailer also will reduce capital expenditures and implement tighter controls over inventory levels. "Despite current challenges," Edmonds said, "we remain confident in our long-term strategies and are optimistic about our future."
