Dollar Tree Releases 1Q Results

Chesapeake, Va.-based Dollar Tree Inc. reported total sales of $1.051 billion, a 7.8 percent increase, for the first fiscal quarter ending May 3, 2008, compared with $975 million for the same time period last year. Comparable-store sales rose 2.1 percent, and according to the company, the increases were driven by the food, health and beauty care, and party supplies segments. "Sales were strong throughout the quarter and exceeded guidance," said Bob Sasser, president and CEO of Dollar Tree. The company operates 3,474 stores in 48 states.
