Shopko Remodels Stores with Feminine Appeal
October 26, 2007
Green Bay, Wis.-based Shopko Stores Operating Co. LLC, an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners Inc., has remodeled several of its stores with a new, softer and more feminine look. The remodeled locations are designed to appeal to the Shopko customer, which is described as a mother with children at home. The most recently remodeled Shopko stores are located in Great Falls, Mont.; Twin Falls, Idaho; Rapid City, S.D.; and Logan, Utah. "You always have to stay fresh, the customer demands that," said Mike MacDonald, Shopko chairman and CEO. "We're evolving with our customers and their needs." Elements of the remodeled stores include new focal fixtures in the jewelry, accessories, apparel and home departments, as well as new fixtures, furniture and optical rod walls in the pharmacy and optical areas. Upgraded lighting, dynamic signing, updated fitting rooms and customer restrooms are additional features. The new palette is warm, but updated with modern colors and design details, said Jane VanAuken, Shopko vice president of store planning. "We are also completely rearranging our merchandise for better flow and ease of shopping," she said. Shopko has completed 45 store remodels over the past few years, with nine remodels in the past year. The newly remodeled stores also feature Shopko's new logo with a tagline geared specifically toward the female customer: "My Life. My Style. My Store." "What we’re trying to accomplish is a softer look and a more inviting atmosphere because that will make customers feel more comfortable entering our stores," MacDonald said. Shopko operates stores in 13 states, including 132 Shopko stores and three Shopko Express Rx stores.
